Ballymena Runners member, Jonny Graham along with his family and friends at Ballymena Runners are supporting The Brain Tumour Charity on Friday 6th March by wearing bandanas for the day to mark Brain Tumour Awareness Day. Everyone taking part will wear a specially designed bandana which is being sold to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Not only that but Jonny has also organised a short run and walking event taking place in Galgorm, Ballymena on Friday 6th March 2015 at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and give encouragement to Jonny, his family, friends and fellow Ballymena Runners members.
Jonny’s mum died from a brain tumour in 2009 and has decided to organise this event to raise awareness of the condition. He says, “My mum’s birthday is on 7th March, so what better way to remember her and celebrate her life than to help raise awareness and do some fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity too. Running and my fellow Ballymena Runners members are a huge part of my life now, so a short, social run and walking event is the best way I can think of to do this. I am determined to help raise awareness of brain tumours which have such a devastating effect on the lives of too many families.”
The Brain Tumour Charity’s Bandana day will happen all across the UK and has support from celebrities like Ronni Ancona. Watch her short promotional video clip encouraging people to ‘Wear It Out’ on 6th March here. Here are some comments and facts from The Brain Tumour Charity –
- Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40’s and survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years.
- We are leading the way in fighting brain tumours by funding world class research as well as offering support and information.
- We receive no government funding, and therefore rely 100% on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of people like Jonny that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.

Jonny’s event leaves the public car park in Galgorm at 6.30pm this Friday – 6th March 2015 with both a 4 mile run & 2 mile walk taking place. Ballymena Today would like to wish all the best to Jonny, his family and all the Ballymena Runners members taking part in this fundraiser but why not go along to Galgorm to encourage him and make a donation to this really worthwhile cause yourself?
