Free drama and dances classes in Ballymena are taking place for young people from ethnic minorities in the town. The project called Spectrum is run by Youth Action NI’s Rainbow Factory of Performing Arts and is supported by Children in Need.
The classes are held in All Saints Parish Centre in Ballymena on Wednesdays. The times are 6:00pm – 7:00pm for under 10s and 7:00pm – 8:30pm for 10 plus.
Here’s what the organisers have to say about it. “Youth Action NI’s Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts offers free Drama and Dance classes in Ballymena to young people aged 5 to 18. The classes are for young people from all cultures, backgrounds and communities. Our current class, for example, includes young people from Polish, Slovakian, Romanian, Indian and Chinese backgrounds. The tutors work together to create a fun and inspiring class for all young people involved. They are focused on building confidence, improving English and developing young people artistically and socially.”

Here’s what to expect in some more detail – “Our long running Drama & Dance project is aimed at young people from ethnic minorities. It is a free Drama and Dance program, with classes in Belfast and Ballymena. After some training in Drama and Dance, in November we make a festival day of workshops and performances based around all cultures involved. Our aim is to create an equal and safe environment for all young people in Northern Ireland. This program helps young people begin to understand other cultures outside of Irish, British and Northern Irish. For older members, it encourages governance in their own communities and proactive peace-building in their local areas.”
