Ballymena Today know that it is more important now than ever to be Scam Wise. That is why NiDirect have gathered together information about Scams and how to spot them. As Christmas comes closer we can be spending more than usual and it is important not to get taken advantage of in the festive rush.
If you can spot a scam, you can stop a scam
This slogan is – ‘If you can spot a scam, you can stop a scam’ and they basically are trying to point out that if something seems too good to be true then it probably is!
They also highlight the fact that we should be cautious when we get good news out of the blue. For example if you get a phone call to say that you have won a competition but you don’t remember entering one.
Try not to give away any of your personal details and remember that it is okay to ask them to give you their credentials. If you are in doubt you can also ask them to leave you a number so you can call them back later with a friend or family member there to help you.
Most of all beware if you are asked to give money in any way shape or form. Lots of online scams offer free trials, discounts and amounts of money but only when you enter your own credit or debit card details. Be very careful when you do this.
