Considering a career in construction – Ballymena Today

Lots of young people are on the verge of getting their GCSE results and in Ballymena we know that many students will be making their final choices about the next few years.

Many students will hopefully be carrying on a school, taking three or four subjects at A-level for the next two years. However, if you have an interest in one particular area or industry then it may be beneficial to explore other options.

If you have just completed GCSE Construction, or plan to pursue Construction as one of you a-level choices then it would be worth considering another option.

If you know that the construction industry is your future, or you are having trouble getting excited about the other 2 or 3 subjects you would have to take a school then read on.

The Northern Regional College currently offer a full time BTEC course in Building Design, Technology and Management. It is a brilliant course that offers a specialist focus on many construction careers including Building surveying, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management. Unlike the courses offered in school you will focus solely on the subject you love and will gain massive benefits from field trips to sites, and teaching from industry professionals.

The college atmosphere also offers an alternative from school and prepares you for life at university or in a job. Classes run for 3-4 days a week meaning you can hold down a part time job. This is an excellent chance to get some work experience in your chosen industry which will stand out on your CV.

If you haven’t gained your GCSE English or Maths qualification then you also have the chance to complete this alongside your studies. The course is assessment based with no exams. GCSE Construction is not an entry requirement.
