Ballymena Runners 5k At Ballymena Academy

A hugely successful charity event would describe Ballymena Runners 5k at Ballymena Academy which raised over £600 for McMillan Cancer Care Charity. The charity event saw 120 people running in the grounds of Ballymena Academy. The runners included many long time club members but Ballymena Runners were also delighted to see a good turn out of recent graduates of their Cosy Sofa programme. The Cosy Sofa programme began at the start of the year to encourage the participants to get off their sofas and after several weeks of training, be able to complete a 5k run by the end of the programme! The club hopes that for those who took part in the Ballymena Runners 5k at Ballymena Academy, it will have given them the bug to continue running and get involved in future running events. Ballymena Runners 5k at Ballymena Academy was a huge success. Ballymena Runners would like to thank Ballymena Academy for the use of the grounds and facilities, club member James Turtle who was race director and the many volunteers who volunteered as marshalls and time keepers. On the night the fastest male runner was  James Hamilton with a time of 16 mins 39 secs and fastest female was Kerry Bamber who completed in a time of 20 mins 20 secs. The club are grateful for everyone who ran, supported or helped in any way to...

Everyone taking part will wear a specially designed bandana which is being sold to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Jonny’s mum died from a brain tumour in 2009 and has decided to organise this event to raise awareness of the condition. He says, “My mum’s birthday is on 7th March, so what better way to remember her and celebrate her life than to help raise awareness and do some fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity too. Running and my fellow Ballymena Runners members are a huge part of my life now, so a short, social run and walking event is the best way I can think of to do this. I am determined to help raise awareness of brain tumours which have such a devastating effect on the lives of too many families.” The Brain Tumour Charity’s Bandana day will happen all across the UK and has...
