Spring Fair at Cambridge House Grammar School

Cambridge House Grammar School are holding their Spring Fair very soon. It is open to all, not just pupils or those connected to the school, and has been organised by the Cambridge House Grammar School Rugby Development Group. Cambridge House Grammar School is located on Galgorm road in Ballymena. Cambridge House School was founded in 1910 by Jane Craig Currie and Sarah Kinnear. Until 1929 it occupied a house in Audley Terrace, beside West Church. It then moved to purpose-built premises on the other side of the Ballymoney Road, where the car park now is. Essentially it was a girls’ school, although a few boys attended until the age of 13. When Miss Currie died in 1936, her niece, Patricia Owens, one of the first pupils (and a teacher since 1927), became Headmistress, a post she held until 1969. In 1930 there had been 113 pupils, but by 1963 there were over 350 and the school had outgrown its accommodation. That year, governors took the decision to place the school entirely under the County Antrim Education Committee (the forerunner of the North Eastern Education and Library Board), thus entitling it to the funds necessary to build a new school with the necessary accommodation. Kirsty Mark from Dunclug College writes : How to survive school until summer More coursework, less time! These 3 methods of survival will help with the struggle of getting to the summer holidays! School can be extremely tiring- a productive day is an exhausting day. It can be difficult to see the light and the end of the tunnel, at the end of the coursework filled tunnel. Any A-level student knows the harsh reality of school and how it adopts any free time possible. With only a month into school you are searching for the next break, well here is how you can survive until then. First of all, keep on top of everything. No one wants to spend their weekends catching up on late assignments that could have been completed easily if you would have the motivation. Ensure all coursework is completed in time, this allows time to correct any mistakes and improve the next draft. If you keep on top of all assignments you may just have the whole week to sleep, and sleep… and sleep more. Next you must plan ahead! Paul Alexander a journalism student from Dunclug College has written a great article about juggling all the work, pressures and stress of your final weeks of school – All or Nothing. It’s that time of the year again for GCSE and sixth form pupils. The school calendar always gathers pace at this stage of the year. As teachers begin to signal the end of your controlled assessment, they start to get you thinking about exams and revision. With coursework deadlines approaching and exams looming, the New Year always gets off to a busy start. This can impact us as the level of stress increases and the amount of hours in a day seems to decrease. Controlled assessment is your first hurdle. Regardless of how many subjects you do controlled assessment takes up quite a bit of your time. In a way it’s a good thing, as it helps you to build up marks before you enter your exams. Deadlines are a major part of your coursework. Once a teacher sets a deadline you know the exact date that parts of, or the entire, task need to be done for. The best thing to do is to try and manage your deadlines as much as you can. Set yourself smaller markers and revaluate them regularly.
