Ballymena Today Youth Team : Homework Tips

It’s that time of the year again in Ballymena! School has officially started and for all the first years out there – you are in for a real treat!! Now since you have settled down into your new classes and started learning new subjects, the teachers then decide to set you a homework *cringe*. Here are some tips to help you keep on top of your homework. Do it the day you get it. I know that sometimes there is a really good TV show on or you may want to visit your friends – and I am not saying that you shouldn’t do these things – but you should do your homework first. If you do it the day you get it, the subject will be fresher in your head which may make the homework easier and faster for you. It also means that you don’t have a lot of homework piling up around you. If you do get too much homework and it is impossible to get it all done, then get the ones done first for the next day and then focus on the other ones in your own time. Take breaks. Homework is tiring and I know that you don’t want to spend ages doing it so, every now and again, take a break and don’t tire or stress yourself out about it. Find a...

Ballymena Today youth team member visits Space Camp 2014

David from the Ballymena Today youth team attended Space Camp this summer. We couldn’t wait to hear about it so we asked him to write us an article – here it is. Space Camp 2014 came to the University of Ulster Jordanstown. It took place over 4 days. It is the first time Space Camp has been in Northern Ireland. There I made an app, learned about rovers, spacecraft that will be made in the future, a moon which may support life and more. I created my own blog called SpaceCamper22 where I explained what we did each day. It is...

Ballymena Today youth team tackle Healthy Eating

Healthy eating makes for a healthy life. Ballymena Today knows that you are what you eat! A good diet is very important for your health and well-being, it can make you feel happier, healthier and full of energy. Remember to eat a variety of different foods: Fruit and vegetables and Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods are the two biggest “slices” of the plate. That means you should be eating plenty of foods out of those categories You should eat lots of milk and dairy foods but don’t overdo it, they can be quite fattening Make sure to eat enough protein, you can do this by eating meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein Food and drinks high in fat/sugar is the smallest category that means that you shouldn’t eat as much of them – but I have to admit I find it a bit of a struggle ☺ Extra tips: Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily Eat breakfast! This is so important in having a healthy diet. If breakfast is skipped, it may lead to weight gain instead of weight loss. I personally know how hard it is to squeeze breakfast in in the morning but even a bowl of Kellogg’s Special K gives you the kick start of energy needed for your day Exercise: Adult recommended = 30mins a day Child...
