Poetry Trials – Ballymena

Ballymena Today Youth team tackle the Poetry Trials! Last Year, my English class was given the task of writing a poem. These poems could have any theme of our own choice, and we were pretty much given free rein to do with it whatever we liked. There were certain rules and guidelines, such as not writing more than 30 lines, it must completely be our own work etc., but there were not many. We were then told as a class that as well as being a C.A.T. (Common Assessment Task) for school, these poems could be sent off to the “Young Writers” poetry competition and the ones which were good enough would be published in a book, called the “Poetry Trials”, which would eventually be available for us to buy. We were told that the best poems in the books would win awesome prizes: 3rd prize would win £250 for their school, 2nd prize would win £500 for their school, and 1st prize would win £1,000 for their school! Also, the top 5 poets chosen from the book would be asked to make a video for the poetry trials final. A public vote would then take place to decide the champion, who would then win an awesome ‘Apple’ prize bundle! This got us all so excited, and it really encouraged us to write the best poems we had ever...

Ballymena Today Youth Team – Perfect Pamper Products

Calling girls everywhere! Come on; face it – who doesn’t like treating themselves every so often? It often doesn’t feel like I get a lot of time to do that, so when I do, I make it count! Here are some of my favourite things I like to use on those special occasions… Face mask – “7th Heaven” I never used to use face masks, and was never interested in them. Juliano’s in Ballymena

Last month, I went to Juliano’s in Ballymena, with Cherry! “Juliano’s” is a fairly-new Crêperie/Dessert Place /Coffee Shop, which took over the similar company “Glory Be”. I must admit that I had never been to either Glory Be or Juliano’s before, despite everyone seeming to talk about them! So, when Cherry and I decided to go to Juliano’s last Saturday, I was thrilled! Juliano’s is on Broughshane Street, in Ballymena – opposite Cameron’s and beside The Salvation Army. It is right in the middle of the shops in Ballymena, and so is already an ideal place to stop when passing by to have something! When I walked into Juliano’s, I was immediately greeted by the smell of warm crêpes, desserts, drinks and many other smells. It made my mouth water – and I hadn’t even seen the food yet! Juliano’s has a long glass cabinet which contains all of their cakes, pavlovas and desserts, along with their magnificent ice cream, cool drinks and much more! As soon as I saw the cakes, pavlovas, brownies and other desserts which they had in the cabinet, I couldn’t help but just open my mouth and stare at them all (Cherry will verify that)! I had never seen such a variety of huge, beautifully presented, mouth-watering desserts before! I looked from one to the other, reading the little notes beside them and struggling...

Corner Bakery – Ballymena

As part of Ballymena Youth Team, I have been doing a bit more exploring around Ballymena for good places to chill and have coffee; and this time I chose Corner Bakery, Ballymena! Corner Bakery has been around for over a year now, so I am surprised that the first time I set foot in the place was only last Friday! It is conveniently located on the corner of Greenvale Street and Ballymoney Street, which means that it is perfectly positioned between both the Tower Centre and the Fairhill Shopping centre! It is also amidst many other shops and cafés in the centre of Ballymena. The bakery is in a small room which can probably seat about 20 – 30 people, yet there is something about the place which makes it seem both cosy and comfortable! Both sit-in and takeaway is available all day with many options to choose from… On a typical day at Corner Bakery, you can enjoy many different things: ranging from pastries such as sausage rolls, vol-au-vents and Cornish pasties, to breakfasts such as porridge, toast etc., to lunches where you can have a delicious bowl of soup, stew, or even a pizza baguette for something completely different! They also have mouth-watering desserts, such as fondant fancies, cream puff squares and fresh Danish pastries! Don’t forget the traybakes? You name it! Caramel squares, brownies, mint squares…...

Super Sales in Sports Direct Ballymena

The Ballymena Today Youth Team has been out and about in Ballymena – shopping in Sports Direct to be exactly . . . Last Tuesday, for a birthday present, my mum and I took a trip down to Sports Direct Ballymena, in the Fairhill Centre. We went because I wanted to get some fitness gear, and also because we had heard that there were some sales on. These we could not miss! As you may already know, Sports Direct is a shop which sells all things physical: ranging from clothes, shoes, cycling accessories, footballs to tennis rackets, and much...
